A Different Kind of Spring

When we moved to our new home in December I had a vision about spring. In spring I would begin work on the grounds at Roseville. There was a vegetable garden to plan and plant. Trees and shrubs to consider and plant along the creek bank to help halt erosion. A possible water garden at the bottom of our front yard to catch the flow of water runoff during rainstorms. I would continue working on the inside of the house, too. Perhaps paint the half bathroom and add some art quilts to the music room.
Then Covid 19 took over the world. We have been sheltering in place since March 13th. So much of the world is shut down to try and mitigate the severity of this illness. It means I have been teaching my Montessori class from home over the internet. Teaching three, four and five year olds this way is not optimal. It has been very stressful and taken up most of my time. I've had more headaches in the past two months than in my whole life combined, or so it seems. In addition to having to teach from home, we have limited our shopping and purchasing. Life and employment is uncertain.
We really do not have it as bad as it could be. Life is inconvenient. I really can't complain. I have my animals to keep me busy and company: two goats, six chickens, two guinea pigs and two cats. Mike and I are both able to continue working and we continue to have income. It has meant all those springtime plans have been put on hold. I did plant a few vegetables (potatoes, sugar snap peas, onions and spinach) but that is all. Without a clear future and some question about continued income, the land improvements have been put on hold for another year.
Although it isn't what I planned or expected, it isn't really anything to complain about. So I'm just here writing about the happenings at our little homestead and will continue to do so. The sun continues to rise, the trees are in bloom, the birds are singing and the goats want their breakfast.
We continue on.
