The New Addition

| Lizzie, age about 1 month |
I brought home this lovely little girl on Friday night. I've named her Elizabeth but we call her Lizzie for short. She is about a month old and is a fainter/alpine/angora (and who knows what else) mix. She is the same size as our cat Chloe but weighs a lot less! Unfortunately her brother has some issues with an infection and an enlarged testicle so I was not able to bring him home at the same time as Lizzie. Having one goat isn't really best practice because they are herd animals and hate to be alone. Thus, Lizzie follows me everywhere or bleats like her heart is going to break! I slept in our mudroom (where we have her indoor cage) on Friday night because I couldn't bear to hear her cry. Yes, I'm a total pushover.
We had to leave her on Saturday afternoon for a few hours and she was not crying when we returned so we know she can get used to being alone. Last night she was also in the crate all night and I RESISTED going to her. It was hard but she didn't cry all night. She won't stay outside alone without making a horrible racket (frankly I didn't even try!) so I'm trying to spend a lot of time out there with her so she gets used to the yard.
She loves sitting on the couch and will just fall asleep with her little head in your lap. Mike has fallen in love with her, too. Our two cats aren't quite as happy about this arrangement but they have both approached her and are now not hiding anymore. She is such a gentle little creature. I really want to use the goats with children so this is a really good thing. Hopefully when we get her brother home she will be more willing to part from us without so much heartache!
